A Day in the Life of a Composer

This summer I had the pleasure of working with 33 very talented young people, creating a new musical, Jabberwocky.  Written with Susannah Pearse, directed by Joe Douglas and choreographed by Vince Manna, the musical was in part devised with the young people, starting from a story board of the narrative and three songs.  Jabberwocky sees Flora, a Victorian young woman, and Jessica, a modern teenager finding each other through the mirror and entering the world of nonsense (where every character is from a nonsense poem).  Together they have to help their new friends defeat the Jabberwock before they can return to make some kind of sense of their own lives.  Jabberwocky was performed at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth, and was one of the most creatively rewarding experiences of my year.
